Today, I am disappointed that I did not follow up on Rachel’s comment that all human beings are inherently lazy. I believe her statement was quite preposterous in that the narrator is the antithesis of a lazy man. He is consumed and haunted with the idea that he will leave this world without making a mark. He is desperate to feel accomplished which is a major source of numerous of his problems. Rather than being an ant, he wants to be a beast and allow his name to live on for generations to come instead of dying as a simple, lonely, depressed ant. This is partially the reasons why he acts out of the norm as to distinguish himself from the herd.
