A Shift In Perspective

    An interesting question was posed today in class? Has the book in any such way affected my life? In a sense I would like to say yes in that my perception on life and people has definitely shifted in the past few weeks; however, I don’t associate this change directly with the novel but rather with your lectures. The idea that all human beings in life are inherently selfish was hard for me to swallow as I am both an optimist and pacifist. I believe you give and you will get as there should be an equal balance between the two. But lately, I have witnessed people go as far as to accuse me of things that could no joke ruin my life. This accusation, although obviously false, has opened my eyes to a new kind of world. This world consists of what I believe now to be reality; a reality in which people will do anything to get ‘ahead of the game’. A cutthroat reality where people are willing to slaughter their own kind in order to look better amongst their fellow man. So in conclusion, yes this book has shifted certain ideas of my life, but more than anything YOU, Mr. Shapiro have shaped my new perspective.
