Decisions We Make (Zane Mandell)

While it is a topic that hasn’t really been touched upon directly in class I would like to touch upon the decision making process of the human mind. We have said that man is the only animal that can act against its own natural interest. I do agree that this is true but I do not think the mind is always conscious of the full parameters of its decision. We are a creature who craves instant gratification, make everything good now and don’t worry about later until it becomes a problem. This is the idea of the old saying “We shall cross that bridge when we get to it”. That thinking is quite honestly the most detrimental to the human race. Because we do not project for the long term, we make decisions that clearly hinder our progress and safety. This leads me to the conclusion that humans are not so intelligent after all. The narrator has spoken on the idea that he wishes to be like the normal man, one who is not so analytical. In this case I believe every intellectual wishes they were that of a normal. Who would want to be aware that their fellow species are killing themselves in the long term? It is much easier to just be ignorant and not know. Knowing that you cannot know: it gets tougher and tougher every day.
