Discussion: 2/20/14

As was discussed in class today, I agree that humans view themselves as superior to all other beings. We think that we are more intelligent and more advanced than other animals, but this is a matter of perception. We are the ones who create the idea of what intelligence entails and how success is measured; so, in the eyes of humans, we are the most superior. However, other species may have the same ideas, yet there is no way for us to be able to tell. Humans are very limited in understanding the perspective of other creatures, simply because it is impossible to get into the mindset of another species. I think the idea of independent choice is what differentiates us from other animals. We have the ability to make decisions for ourselves based on what we want, rather than whatever is in our best-interest. This ability is what provides us with a sense of control and, in turn, a feeling of superiority; we can determine our future.
