Barbaric Nature

The idea that we do not lose our barbaric nature, and that it is only suppressed by religion, is an interesting one. I'm not sure if that at our nature we are entirely barbaric, considering the compassion we, at times, feel for one another and our seemingly species wide love of cute little kittens. If we were solely barbaric in nature then we wouldn't have the need to cuddle cute kittens every time they come along, we would more likely to want to hurt them, which is simply untrue considering that I couldn't even bring myself to give my cat his insulin shot because I didn't want to cause him pain. However I do believe that yes, a part of our nature is a bit barbaric, and at times we want to do bad things. Religion does suppress the hurtful nature, yet it is incapable of completly suppressing it and we all have our little temper tantrums every once in a while as a result.
