Yesterday
we talked about the long term and short-term advantages of our actions.
Honestly, I think it is completely obvious that we are more concerned with our
short-term advantage; humans like to live for today, not tomorrow. All of our
decisions are determined by our impulses and temptations. Naturally, we are
impulsive creatures, so whatever seems to be the best decision in the moment is
the one we lean towards. For example, unprotected sex could potentially be bad
in the long run, especially if you are unlucky and encounter STD’s or pregnancy,
but does anyone think about that when they’re in the heat of the moment? No.
Freudian theory explains that humans are driven by irrational impulses, and I agree
completely. Otherwise, why else would make half of the illogical decisions that
we do?
