I don’t really understand why humans put themselves in
situations that are going to be harmful in the long run. Is it only for a temporary
pleasure like smoking or unprotected sex? I guess this proves that we really
are more concerned with the present than the future. Darwinian theory explains
that humans will act according to their own best interest. However, when
religion becomes involved and we are condemned for acting in our own best
interest, it turns into a conflict between selfishness and selflessness. Does
society really benefit by everyone contributing to a bigger picture? I can
argue that eventually things become so complicated that it really isn’t beneficial
for all of society to be contributing to one goal. I don’t want to say that
humans shouldn’t help each other out, but I do believe that working in your
best interest may be personally and socially better.
