2/10 Discussion

The most interesting part of today’s discussion was the comment that Philippe made and the discussion that arose from it. I had always pondered the idea that what we see is not necessarily what exists. The idea is basically the concept behind Plato’s cave, the fact that all we see is the shadow of what might exist and that we cannot truly know what exists. The main explanation, or wall, that people seem to hide behind nowadays is the possibility of the existence of other dimensions, above and beyond what the human mind can see, and I find this possibility somewhat comforting in that it is unlikely we will ever prove the existence or non-existence of these extra dimensions, therefore I feel that the idea will remain a strong one for a long time. Yet this is exactly the feeling that most people probably felt about the church, until evolution came along and destroyed that idea. Yet this time, I am settling on the fact that I know we do not know everything, and I am fine with it, I have no desire to prove or disprove these dimensions as any further explanation would just break down society as we know it.
