Discussion: 2/12/14

After today’s discussion, I think I have a somewhat clearer understanding as to what the narrator is explaining. The primary flaw in Darwin’s theory is that it is not applicable to humans. People are extremely complex in comparison to other animals; it is for this reason that we do not always follow what is in our own best interest. Perhaps it is the feeling of control that it gives us; maybe it is the sense of purpose. From a personal standpoint, I know that I do not always do what is in my own best interest. When completing college applications, I did not ask for help when writing my supplements because, if I were to get accepted, I did not want to think that it was because of someone else’s work. This was probably not in my best interest, as I did not get different opinions and lacked space for improvement. Regardless, the feeling of getting accepted to a school after that was so much more rewarding; it provided a sense of accomplishment based on what I could control in the application process.
