We strive to get from point A to B as quickly and
efficiently as possible, which I suppose makes us all part of the “direct
persons” category. Dostoyevsky makes a point that we are all about the product
of our work and not the path, which unfortunately has a lot of truth to it. One
thing I disagree with him about is that he believes we like to build things up
to their maximum capacity and then destroy them. But, if we didn’t always try
constructing things to their maximum capacity and we settled for mediocrity,
there would not be any progression. I don’t necessarily think humans are
creatures of destruction, but rather of constant progress. It is part of our
nature to want more and strive for greatness.
