Discussion 2/18/14 (Alexia Barrios)

What is our advantage? How does freedom of choice, a quality that we human possess, make us more advantageous than animals as it can lead us to divert from the rational and logical choice to one that does not necessarily work in our best interest. How is it advantageous that a man who is aware of the consequences of smoking still does so because he simply chooses to as though it is entirely out of spite, but in the end he is only hurting himself. It almost seems to me that humans are somewhat spiteful in the sense that we do not want to always follow the logical and beneficial path suggested to us by society but instead go on a rougher path simply because we want to object and make our own choices in life. I am not saying that we should not have freedom of choice because we should but that I do not fully comprehend how it is the “most advantageous advantage” (15) that man possesses.
