How We Are (Zane Mandell)

It is certain that it is impossible to escape how we are. There are certain factors that dictate this and make us the way we are. No matter how hard we try to be someone else we will always fall back on the way we are inclined to act. This is also true of our nature, not just our personality and way of life. The narrator shows how this is true as he is so inclined to love, feel offended, and seek revenge. It is impossible to escape the most basic human emotions; otherwise one would simply not be human. The narrator is disgusted by the fact that he is one of the masses, but seems to have accepted the fact since there is really no other choice. That may be what he is getting at, accepting how things are and how we are and getting on with it. Acceptance is a theme that we will see more and more within this work.
