Advantages

I find it interesting how people do not act in their own advantage to help our society grow.  If everyone did the same exact thing, life would be boring.  Dostoyevsky says, “there will be no more incidents or adventures in the world,” (page 17), meaning life would be dull and boring.  This is the reason that people act out of free choice and against their own advantage in some cases.  This will help our society grow and advance because we will be different from others.  Society will grow by individuals who try something new and different.  This is explained perfectly by the example Shapiro gave in class.  This example helped me understand this whole concept.  The example is if both teams of a football game had the best players and the best coaches, the score would always be zero.  However, if one individual on one of the teams goes against the regular formation and tries something new, he will score.  This was his choice and it ended up working in his advantage.
