Discussion: 2/24/14

As Shannon mentioned in class, today’s discussion about the fact that the journey is better than the destination also reminded me of our term paper book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Working towards a goal or a conclusion is something that we all enjoy, often more so than the actual conclusion itself. I can relate to this idea on a few levels. From an artistic standpoint, I enjoy working on pieces and working towards the goal of completing them; once I am finally finished, I have to immediately start on something new in order to fill the space of the last piece. I think that people like having something to work towards. Once the goal is reached, one cannot witness the progress that he or she is making. After having spent so much time on something, it is only natural to be a bit lost once it comes to a close.
