Coming to terms with who you are

The underground man has a superiority complex that shows when he believes he is more intelligent than the masses. As this idea progresses, he realizes that intelligent, or cultivated, men are acutely conscious. This at first can be a curse, but you learn to accept it, or at least he says he did. I think the author is explaining that the underground accepted who he was and wants others to do the same. It is the idea that you are who you are, and even if you would like to change that, there is nothing to become. You are going to be the best version of yourself and cannot become something your not. This is a hard fact to come to terms with, but once you do you will find enjoyment. This is what the underground man talks about when he accepts that he is acutely conscious and finds enjoyment in it.
