Tuesday

I must say that I had mixed feelings about what was said today in the discussion. It seemed that the majority of the people (or at least those who talked) believed that religion is simply a way of controlling basic human nature which is all about "survival". Yes, from an evolutionary stand point, we are genetically predisposition toward protecting ourselves, and reproducing to all for the survival of the species. But I do not agree with the idea that in going against nature we are holding ourselves back. I believe (and yes you may say that this is because I have been taught to believe it, but I don't care, its what I believe) that there is a basic goodness in certain religions teachings. The truth is I am a religious person, and though people complain about religion and the misuse of power and interpretation of the old texts, I believe that at its core it is meant to do good. There is something beautiful in having faith in something greater then yourself, and part of that beauty is the fact that this faith is blind. The truth is that my religion makes me a better person (let me be specific, not better then the non-reliegous, but better then how I am when I stray from it)  and I don't really care what the motivation is behind it.
