The Infinite (Zane Mandell)

We all get a certain amount of time to be alive. This is in fact a good thing. As we discussed in class everything we are able to perceive is finite. Without an end, there truly is nothing. If we didn’t have death waiting for us as a means to an end then we would be able to do everything, while in reality we would do nothing. What is the point of doing something if no matter what you do you will be able to live forever? There really isn’t one. So it is therefore a good thing we do not live forever.
But on the greater point at hand. We are unable to cope with the idea of infinite. We always place boundaries on ourselves. Even though the narrator of the novella is trying to point this out as a problem, he is also unable to escape boundaries. That is what makes life what it is, without boundaries there is no reason, there is no purpose. While these boundaries hinder us, the benefits truly outweigh the negative effect. While the infinite is always out there waiting for us to explore, it will just have to wait, infinitely.
