Post for 2/5/14 (Alexia Barrios)

As a society we fear the unknown and as a result we attempt to create theories or stories in order to come to conclusion and settle our emotions about what we do not know. Personally, I am not an entirely religious person though I do belief in a superior being, but I find many of the stories in the Bible to be just that; stories. They were made up in order to ease the unsettled minds of those who at the time had no idea of how we came upon Earth and there is in my opinion not enough proof to prove them to be factual. But we have to belief in something and those stories back then settled the minds of people and gave them something to belief in. When Darwin released his theories of course the result was somewhat chaotic, if Mr. Shapiro did introduce a whole new “religion” or a whole new concept for us to belief in which completely debunked the one we previously held we would feel entirely vulnerable. I also found interesting the topic of the masses needing a “wall”, which has a comforting effect on man, and that the idea the concept of infinity leaves man with a unsettling feeling. We as a species need to have boundaries. We picture everything as having an end and that is just how we were designed to function, so in order to fully grasp and conceptualize the idea of infinity is one that is very challenging for us, hence why the wall is a much needed tool.
