Comment on Nye Vs Ham Debate

My favorite part of this debate is that Nye is constantly trying to keep himself from flat out saying that the other guy is wrong, he focuses on providing evidence through sources other than his own. Personally, I would not be able to stand up there and not just call the creationist guy a closed minded idiot for refusing straight up facts. But I am not critical of him because of his belief, he can believe whatever he wants, but the way that Ham acts, it seems like he is trying to encourage the idea that science is wrong and makes it seem okay to be ignorant. Like Nye said at the end of the speech, we need the scientists, the engineers, the logical people in our nation to actually progress and make the country a better place. And this is my greatest concern with religion, the fact that they are so opposed to change, if there is a theory that debunks something in their literature, they reject it and shun it to the ground, promoting stagnation in society. Yet science invites criticism, if you can prove something wrong, you are a hero because you can advance society. The fact that Nye focused on promoting this idea, instead of making Ham look like an idiot or blatantly disrespecting him makes this whole debate so much more respectable, we need to do whatever we can to move forward in science, and more and more does it seem that the next step we need to take to move forward, is to get rid of the stagnant nature of religion, but not religion itself.
