An Analysis of Religion

The part of today’s lecture that I would like to focus on relates to the introduction of Darwinism in the 19th Century. We discussed how the ideas were revolutionary because they were the first to completely contradict all religions. For thousands of years, people were believing in something more powerful, and Darwin essentially s**t on these ideas. For once, some people were being convinced that religion is solely based on ideas rather than facts. Interestingly enough, Dostoyevsky almost challenges the idea of religion. He implies through the narrator that religion is used as an escape to any mistakes or sins that one commits in life. In addition, he suggests that many people practice religion because it can only act as a win-win situation where if a God does exist you go to a better place after death whereas if a God does not exist the same thing happens to you even if you did not practice religion.
