2/5 Discussion Comments

The idea of “the wall” that was introduced in today’s discussion is probably one of the more interesting ideals presented in this book. The whole idea of infinity has blown my mind ever since I first began to comprehend the incomprehensible nature of infinity. What has really made it interesting is not the fact that it is scary to think that there might be such a thing as infinity, or a physical concept that is limitless, but the implications of the infinity. I always came to grips very quickly with the idea that nobody would be able to fully comprehend infinity, seeing as the human mind is finite, but I would constantly wonder what would happen at the end of what we can see right now. I find this concept to be very similar to the idea that immortality would be a curse, and the fact that Dostoyevsky wrote about this exact topic makes this book, and the discussions about it, extremely interesting as it is a continuation of a lot of my ponderings.
