Self-Awareness (Zane Mandell)

As discussion gets deeper so do my thoughts. As we have discussed the narrator sees consciousness as a disease. But I would like to explore the absoluteness of this subject. Being self-aware means you have achieved a state where you are always conscious of everything. You are always exploring tangents to thoughts, as well as tangents to those ideas. This is where our narrator is, this is how he develops his ideas, by building on original thoughts through additional tangents. He is unable to stay on one thought long enough to get to the point, his ‘disease’ keeps him from truly finishing anything.
Turning to Pain, the main topic of today’s discussion, we see that the real purpose of pain is a chance to receive validation from others. But our narrator doesn’t seek validation he seeks truth. Yet the pain he receives comes from the seeking of truth. This is the problem; his pain is all kept inside. This is where are narrator is, locked not only physically, but also emotionally from the outside world. And he knows it, all too well.
