Post on discussion (2/7/14) (Alexia Barrios)

I find it very interesting that the narrator seed himself as a mouse. As we read his notes when the narrator is in public we find him to be an egotistical as he finds himself to be highly superior to the masses that surround him. What is interesting is the fact that he finds his acute consciousness to be the source of his inferiority and in private he hates himself for this. The narrator simply wants to fit into society but this aspect about him leaves him incapable of doing so. He, unlike the masses around him, is incapable of beginning or ending anything and he goes back and forth with these motions. In the end he is left in the middle completely dumbfounded and excluded from society when he so desperately just wants to fit in.  Due to this incapability to come through with the act of revenge, the “mouse” is left with the rage and anger growing deep inside of him, which only fosters his hatred for himself. In my opinion, I believe the narrator wishes he was the average man. He wishes he lacked the acute consciousness that he possess since this is what holds him back from being a average member of society versus being a mouse observing society from under the floorboards.
