Discussion: 2/4/14

After contemplating the question about God’s existence, I do not think that I would like to know. Having absolutely no doubt about God’s existence may cure some anxiety, but I think that, ultimately, I would not be able to live life as I would have liked to. As was discussed in class, absolute certainty about God’s existence would not allow for choice. People would rely more on fate than on the personal choices that they make, and I do not think that this is how one should life his or her life. Complete reliance on faith means that a person’s choices do not truly impact his or her life, and that person is basically just a minor part of one larger system. I think Josh was the one who said that if everyone was part of the same religion and sought to please one god, then life would be boring; I have to agree with him. Different beliefs are what make up individuals; without individuality, life is dull.
