The thought of himself

Today in class we touched upon the topic of the feelings the underground man has of himself. He tries to fit into society and is acting like a person that he is really not anything like. He definitely doubts himself, and at first I did feel sad for him. I tried to sympathize as I kept reading, but this was much harder. I agree with Morgan in the fact that he is confused about himself, and is trying to prove himself to society, but also just wants to feel good about his actions and thoughts. He purposely hides his soft side, which he, along with society, sees as a weakness. Honestly I do not believe that this id necessarily a weakness. As Adriana said, everyone is going to let their guard down in certain situations. Although it risks mockery, keeping the feelings bottles up is what ends up torturing the underground man. It is a vicious cycle, that is never going to end.
