Post 3

During today’s reading, the narrator mentioned that he looks back on his life as being “solitary” (29). I can understand how this statement is probably true, as he seems rather different from the majority of society, but not necessarily in a negative way. I think he has a better understanding of who he is as a person, due to his large analysis of his own character. Most individuals do not take the time to look at themselves from a different perspective, and the narrator’s decision to assess himself in this manner gives him a clearer, yet more judgmental, perspective. I have been enjoying the second part of the novel more than the first mainly because it is not as dense and confusing as Part 1. I like that we are learning more about the narrator now, as it gives us a better understanding of who he is. I mentioned in my last post that we cannot really trust the narrator, but maybe knowing a little bit more about him and his background will add some validity to his ideas.
