First Few Pages

I was pleasantly surprised upon reading the first few pages of Notes from the Underground. Unfortunately I am guilty of having judged the book by its cover and assuming that it would be boring. Form what I have read so far, that is in no way the case. This is solely because of the very interesting narrator the the author develops in practically the first page. It is interesting because the narrator expresses himself as someone who enjoys playing with others by making them uncomfortable, however then he quickly contradicts himself by stating that all of the his previous statements were an attempt at seeming interesting. I find it extremely interesting how self- aware he's seems to be, yet at the same time he is exhibiting signs of an unreliable narrator. What seems to be the one constant in his character is his strait forwardness. He is extremely blunt, which is a bit refreshing to read and because of that I am excited to see what is to come.
