I must say that I am truly enjoying this book so far, even if at times I do not understand this. Though I already said this in the class discussion I still believe this entire book is simply the narrators attempt to understand, and find himself. Early in the book he even strait says it when he states, "but I will explain it.......that is why I have taken up my pen,". In that he is discussing how he can find enjoyment in being a scoundrel, and he claims he will explain it, but being the unrealizable narrator he is, he will not because in truth he does not know. He speaks with authority to compensate for his own insecurity over his his lack of knowledge of the world. What's interesting is that in a way this book reminds me a lot of my term paper book, Zen and the Art of Motercycle Maintenence. In that novel the narrator is trying to understand the world and the philosophy in it, however he is searching for answers to questions that have answer. This novel is similar in that the narrator seems to be searching for one partucular reason for why he feels and thinks that way he does, and this book is supposed to be his answer. However no one person can completly psycoanalyze themself in less then 100 pages and I fear the narrator will not find the answers he seaks
