Post 4

After today’s reading, I still believe that the narrator has a feeling of superiority over everyone else. He speaks in a manner that is somewhat arrogant and rather judgmental. Despite his superiority complex, however, I do have sympathy for him. He seems so far removed from the majority of society, and I feel bad that he seems so alone, regardless of how he explains his feelings for the situation. Even though he may feel indifferent as to how he regards others, it is clear that others, understandingly, take offense. “They went away. Ferfitchkin did not greet me in any way as he went out, Trudolyubov barely nodded” (45). The narrator’s belittling treatment of others leads those who interact with him to treat him coldly in response. While he may not care that he is isolated from society, I cannot imagine how he must feel going through life completely alone.
