Setting the Tone (Zane Mandell)

I would like specifically focus on the discussion that took place on the place that the speaker is located in society. As discussed he is one who worked a job as a clerk, which is below his level of intelligence and used the job in order to gain pleasure from the pain of others. But he is troubled by the idea that he feels compassionate in some circumstances and hates that part of himself. I think this notion is not all that unique. I think that every person always has qualities that they hate in themselves, even if that may be a quality that someone else envies. It may be a physical trait such as hair or an emotional one such as in this case. We all are conflicted within ourselves with how we are. Consciousness is the meat of all of this. Hopefully we will get to discuss that tomorrow, as it really ties everything together throughout the narrative.
