I enjoyed
the class discussion today. It gave me
much more insight into the book than I had before. It made me think about different sentences
that the narrator said that I had not thought into as much depth when I first
read. I agree that the narrator thinks
he is better than everyone else and hates himself when he shows any sign of
weakness. This is shown by this first
paragraph when he says his “liver is diseased,” (page 1), but he does not want
to go the doctor because this is a sign of weakness.
Also, I
found the idea of the officers interesting.
This also shows how the narrator does not want to feel inferior to
anyone. He does not get along well with
officers because they are his superiors and he feels inferior while with
them. They have the power to tell him to
do what they want and the narrator likes having all the power to himself, so
this is not a good combination. Overall
from the class discussion today, I learned that the narrator wants to be above
everyone else and hates when he has feelings of compassion because it shows how
he is weak.
