After
getting over the fear I had to start this novel, I found myself most interested
in how the author is writing to his readers. He makes commentary on how the
reader is probably thinking a certain way, and this leads me to believe that he
will be toying with his readers throughout the entire novel. “I bet you think I
am writing this from affectation…” I did find it somewhat difficult to read,
rereading certain paragraphs over and over. What helped me understand further
was his detailed description about himself.
I also
found it quite interesting that he rambles, but it reflects a train of thought
that continues into something else. Somehow, they are all intertwined. I find
his thoughts on revenge and spite intriguing. The author explains that thought process
is a big mess (much like his writing), and people stand around to judge. This
leads to spite, which is the present, but not necessarily directed to a
specific object.
