Almost Done

Tonight’s reading was again relatable (as crazy as that may sound to some people) because of the narrator’s realistic approach to life. I think if you asked any person to put their thoughts down on paper and publish them they would sugarcoat everything and take out any ideas that may be considered “weird” or “insane”. That is the one thing that the narrator does not do in Notes from the Underground and it is the major reason that I do not mind reading the novel despite its overall difficulty. I love the fact that the narrator is almost entirely negative when thinking about himself because in reality, most of our ideas about ourselves are negative. No person goes through a day thinking how perfect they are. Instead, people, just as the narrator does, are constantly criticizing themselves in their head and are almost never satisfied with their accomplishments. I think that the novel provides a lot of insight and allows the reader to really analyze their individual thoughts and realize that their own thoughts may be considered strange and/or negative by anyone else reading them.
